How to read this page
Latest data is the through-date of the newest observation we hold for a
series — read from the data itself, not the file timestamp. A feed can be refreshed daily and
still be "on-time" with a week-old value if its source only publishes weekly with a one-week
lag (FRED's BRL/USD and NASS weekly slaughter both work this way). The status reflects the
contract, not the calendar.
Next release is when the upstream source is expected to publish the next
data point, computed from each series' cadence and known publication lag. A series stays
on-time until that date passes (plus a short grace) — so a monthly figure keyed to
the start of its reporting period reads correctly even when the latest value is, by design,
weeks old. The status flips to behind only when a scheduled release is genuinely
overdue, not merely because the period itself is old.

When a series goes behind, our monitor automatically re-runs its fetch before this page ever
shows the flag. The freshness RSS feed emits an entry every time a
series advances its through-date or changes status.
